Some Florida Sunshine

Sharing a little from Naples, Florida... Pretty much what Florida brings: beach, relaxation, sun, food, cocktails... Who can complain about that, eh?

I ate a bunch of fish... grouper, mahi mahi, yellow snapper... yum-o! (Sorry, don't mean to sound like Rachel Ray). Drank a few fruity cocktails...

The new thing... Naples Zoo... how fun. Do you know what a Foosa is? I did not- do now! Do a little google search if you are curious. Check me out with the cardboard tiger. Grrrr...

Back to Cali I am...

Sundance Part 4- Final Day

So sad.... final day of Sundance... that is why it has taken me so long to write. Boo hoo. But, it was a GREAT last day...

Monday we had 2 movies with a yummy dinner in between. First up was Brief Interviews with Hideous Men with John Krasinski, Julianne Nicholson, Christopher Meloni, etc. Cool flick about a scorned woman conducting interviews with men (aka "subjects") about women.

Second was The Messenger with Woody Harrelson. Sad, but good too. See pics of a few of the men we saw today... Hee hee... Cuteness all around.

Once again, another wonderful trip to Sundance. I think the best part for me was Sundance + Goo Goo Dolls together, but then again the entire trip was fabulous. Can't say it enough... SUNDANCE ROCKS!!!

Now, off to Naples Florida for a few more days... Oh, the life...

Sundance- Part 3

I am in heaven today... I think I smiled all night in my sleep- seriously... Yesterday while at Sundance, one of my favorite places in the world every January, Johnny Rzeznick from the Goo Goo Dolls, my favorite band EVER, played at the Sundance Music Cafe. With our "Festival Credentials" in hand (yes, we are cool!), we waited in line for a few minutes and entered the intimate-crowd tent. It was amazing! Words can't explain... See the photos of "my friend" Johnny above...

Next up- after a little shopping, we went to dinner at Chimayo along with Laura San Giacomo (of Pretty Woman, Sex, Lies & Videotape, and Just Shoot Me fame) and had a quite a feast. Between Amy and I we had... prepare yourself...

California and Italy white wines

Potato bread with chipotle sauce

Corn and crab chowder

Pumpkin soup

Shrimp, mango, and pineapple arugula salad

Shrimp and avocado dip with corn chips

Grilled salmon with spicy mashed potatoes

Broiled elk with asparagus and potato quesadilla

Apple fritters with cinnamon ice cream

Pineapple and coconut sorbet with sugared pineapple and candied almonds

Wow- really. Not joking. Good thing we have exercised every day and watched our other meals. Well, it was amazing. Filling, but so yummy.

Big sigh here.... ahhhh.... time for another day at Sundance... Life is good.

Sundance- Part 2

Yep, that's Ashton Kutcher- it was not cold (the hat)- I guess that's just the hip thing to do these days... those youngsters. By youngster I mean under 30 (oh wait! he turns 31 next month! maybe it's fashion lessons from his fabulous older wife...)

Do you think he resembles Josh Hartnet in this pic? Well, I should say Josh resembles him. I was never a huge Ashton fan, but after seeing him in the movie Spread last night (think American Gigilo, sex in exchange for the good life.... and then maybe you can guess where the title may have come from??? Hmmm...), I think I have become a HUGE fan. Wow- I was impressed and I think I can speak for Lil' Amy here too. OMG! If this flick gets picked up, ladies, check it out.

Of course Demi was there too- and Anne Heche and her man-oh-the-moment James Tupper- looks like they have a little one on the way... Jeez. I can't keep up with her. She is a cutie though.

Ok- back to more fun... RUMOR has it Brad Pitt is in town. Or is it that RUMOR Willis is here? Well, no one would care about the latter...

Sundance 2009- Part 1

I can't believe it's finally here!!! SUNDANCE 2009!!! Yeah!!!

There will be many "parts" to the Sundance entries based on movies we see and things we do. The "we" being Lil' Amy and me. We have had a blast already. And it's not that cold here!

Let's start with Premier #1- Brooklyn's Finest. As you can imagine- the gritty details behind Brooklyn, NY cops. Cast included Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke, and Don Cheadle. Great flick! Directed by the guy who did Training Day. Cheadle and Snipes were there- dark glasses and all...

After the film and Q&A- we did a little Main Street walking (the place to see and be seen) where we did some nighttime shopping. I ended up with FUR LINED UGG FLIP-FLOPS. Yes, seriously.. not joking. They are a bit ugly, but sooooo warm after a winter pedicure. If I get around to it while we are here, I will post a pic.

Gotta go, more stars to gaze...

CUPCAKES! CUPCAKES! CUPCAKES!!!

As I begin to watch the coveted Golden Globe awards, I should be crash-dieting as I watch the beautiful people of the world on the red carpet, but.. nope, I am bloggin' about cupcakes. What is up with that???

I will tell you what's up with that- they are amazing! Why are cupcakes so much better than a piece of cake? It's just a different form? I don't know... they are just simply better.

Some of the best I have found (yes, I stalk the USA for good cupcakes... I should weigh 250 pounds...) are Sprinkles in Los Angeles. So tasty! When I was there last, I stood in line (yes, there is a line out the door) and in addition to the cupcakes, I purchased the red velvet mix. Well, I forgot I had it and I recently made the cupcakes. I was so enthralled, I took pictures. Yes, I am one fat (not literally I hope) cupcake nerd.

Check 'em out. Aren't they pretty? Almost to pretty to eat. Ok, not really. And, yes, I know... if you place 2 next to one another with those Sprinkles trade-mark candies on top they look like.... Whatever, they look like whatever you think they look like guys.

What is YOUR favorite cupcake in the world???

I Have A New School-Girl Crush

On October Road

Yep- I'm smitten on the (little) screen... His name is (actor) Warren Christie. Do ya know him? Now, he is no Brad Pitt or George Clooney- being all super famous and all, but I have always had a thing for the underdog.
On cheesy movie

If you watched the now canceled "October Road" on TV, he played the bad guy- Ray aka Big Cat- and I must say, while he had a nice smile, I was not a fan- quite an ass was he. I was more a fan of George Stults (yum)- who played Eddie , especially after meeting him in Chicago last summer at Wrigley Field, and the cutie-pie Bryan Greenberg, whom I saw at Sundance last year, who played the lead character of Nick.
But, with the holiday season upon us, I saw the NEW shorter haired version of Warren- playing the male lead on some cheesy Lifetime-happy-ending-holiday-flick. While the movie was definitely not an Oscar winner (not even a People's Choice), he made the movie worth watching. More than once.

I think I'm in love.... Ya, puppy love. Now, if he can just be at the Sundance Film Festival in 9 days, I will be a very happy girl. Cross your fingers friends.

My Dad Says Animals Don't Have Working Brains

I'm not sure if I'm crabby because I'm sitting in the airport awaiting a delayed flight or because I did not get much sleep last night. Well, I think it's both, but please let me explain the sleep.

When I moved to California, one of my goals was to get the most comfortable mattress ever made. I spent $4,000 (yep I said 4 grand) on a fabulous pillow-top that I adore. One would think for that price it would fly, vibrate, talk to me.... nope, it just feels really, really comfy. Being single, I sleep alone (well.... at least most of the time...), but over the past few weeks, I have let Casey, the famous feisty kitty, sleep in the bed as well. I take the side by the night stand and she curls into a little ball on the other. So it goes...

Yesterday I washed my sheets (another big purchase with some ridiculously high thread count that feel like butter on my sleeping skin- Gosh, I really am a shopping whore!) and when I put them back on, I decided the "night stand side" was looking a little more "slept in" than the other, so I it is time for me to flip to the other side for a little balance of the luscious pillow-top.

Time for bed... OH NO! Casey was NOT having it- it was if she was saying... "You may be my keeper, but what the heck do you think you are doing lady? That's my side!".... as she continued to paw me and try to get to me move over. It did not stop there... she jumped on me and again tried to push my head. There was so much confusion, neither of us were sure what to do. However, after about 20 minutes of battle, and me not giving up, Casey finally did and curled into her little ball on the "night stand side". BUT- I swear, during the night, she tried again... not a happy kitty was she...

Morale of the story? Dad, so much for your theory. I believe animals really do have working brains- especially my Casey. And they are stubborn (that is obvious). She is a genius...

Has Anyone Seen Jim Carrey's Naked Butt? I Can't Find It...

Oh wait! I found it! In the movie "Yes Man" tonight!
Jennifer and I went to see the flick for a few belly laughs today (Mr. Carrey is always good for that- albeit some stupid humor). Well, while the movie was what I expected from the trailers, I about fell out of my seat at the unexpected sighting of Jim's naked butt on a motorcycle. Oh- and Jennifer was laughing out loud (Jen- did you have coffee coming out of your nose???)
While I am no film critic, I thought it was funny- nothing I would tell you to run out and see immediately, but funny nonetheless. What I did miss was some of those rubber-faces Jim makes in most of his movies. I only caught a few.
Anyway, so much for Saturday on the town. Now back to my Sprinkles Red Velvet cupcakes... OH YUM! However, I am sure there will be more "TMI" tomorrow- as you know what red velvet cupcakes leave you in the bathroom the day after.... Or do you???

Lookin' Back at Sundance

Since it's only 15 days until SUNDANCE 2009 when Lil' Amy and I will be hittin Park City (aka "the city of stars" for 2 weeks), I thought it would be a good idea to look back at some photos from SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVALS of years past. (Remember what I said about stalking... here is the proof!) You can perform your own ratings... A list, B list, or No List. Have fun!
